STATEMENT OF THE JOB

Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled physical labor and other duties including maintenance, repair, construction and clean-up activities. This position may be required to work weekends and/or holidays on occasion.

* This position will be assigned to Parks Division

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE/LICENSING & TRAINING

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED and any combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the functions of the position which includes knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities.

LICENSING & TRAINING:

  • Valid State Driver's License at time of hire
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire

    *Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.
  • Perform a variety of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled duties in maintenance, construction, and repairs.
  • Clearing debris and cleaning of ditches.
  • Inspects and/or repairs chlorine machine, pumping stations, and sewer systems at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the system are functioning property.
  • Performs general clean-up work which may include sweeping and mopping of floors, emptying trash containers, washing windows, walls and sinks, restrooms; sweeping sand and debris from patios, slabs, walks, and play areas.
  • Removes weeds and maintains landscaping.
  • Responds to complaints regarding sewer odors, evaluates situations, and reports to supervisor.
  • Assists in installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing sprinkler systems.
  • Picks up trash and checks trash cans throughout the City.
  • Operates a variety of trucks and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Maintain road right-of-ways clearing debris, cutting weeds, and cleaning ditches using required hand tools.
  • Performs routine maintenance to assigned tools, equipment and buildings.
  • May be required to perform daily vehicle inspections and clean and wash equipment.
  • Operate power tools such as chain saws, concrete saws, air hammers, pavement breakers, tampers, and two-way radio.
  • Complete required daily logs and reports.
  • May be assigned to on-call/standby status.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers
  • Complies with and promotes safe practices in agreement with the safety rules and procedures set forth.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to perform hard physical labor in a variety of weather conditions, including extremely hot weather. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee must have the agility to frequently lift and/or be moved up to 50 pounds or more, and occasionally lift weights up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to read printed materials and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to hear, and use professional speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

WORK ENVIRONMENTS:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to extremely hot weather, wet and/or humid conditions, and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee may also be required to work in roadways while directing traffic and permit required confined spaces after receiving the required training.
